Many of us often seek the help of a therapist for several different reasons.  Maybe, we are looking to facilitate a change in our lives – we feel stagnant, something is not contributing to our happiness, or we seek greater inspiration.  We become interested in walking a different path or finding new tools to reach our goals.  Perhaps we encounter a major challenge or crisis, whether we did or did not expect it, and we have to look inside ourselves to find the resilience that is truly there in order to continue on.  We may be interested in learning more about ourselves and capabilities, so we aim to take the time to invest in our own self-enlightenment. Sometimes, we just want someone to understand, to accept us, and to have the capacity to listen to us as objectively as possible in a safe and private space.

As a therapist, I will listen and seek to understand your needs for therapy.  Together we will explore core issues that influence your present goals and I will work with you to illuminate the meaning and value of your own experience.  Often self-acceptance, validation, and knowing your own strengths are major ingredients of achieving what we desire; therefore, I will help you turn your attention to areas where these qualities may help.  In alignment with your personal goals for therapy, I can provide counseling and education specific to your needs.  For instance, I may show you how you can change your behavior by changing your thoughts (and vice versa), how to use Mindfulness strategies to eliminate stress/anxiety, provide couples/individual work to improve connection and communication in relationships, educate on recovery or harm reduction tools to help cope with a matter involving substance use or out of control sexual behavior, apply EMDR/somatic-based approaches for trauma/anxiety and even substance using or other behavioral urges. I also offer support/guidance/resources for exploring sexual orientation/gender identity/transitioning/coming out issues and I can provide assessments and letters of recommendation for gender-affirming medical treatments/procedures. These are just some examples to give you an idea about what the process of therapy might offer.

Sometimes we may have trouble making a change for many reasons – in those moments, I will seek to understand what is difficult, what barriers are getting in the way, and I may offer encouragement in a particular direction.  Most importantly, you lead this process by coming to our sessions and voicing what is on your mind and in your heart.  It is essential that you are satisfied with the overall result and find that you are making choices that lead to what most of us want – peace, satisfaction, and happiness.

Insurance and Payment:

Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length.  Please contact me for pricing.  I do offer reduced fees for clients who have less ability to afford services.   I do not contract with insurance companies; however, many insurance plans will reimburse costs for therapy if there is an out-of-network benefit.  I would be happy to speak with you about how to find out if your plan will cover this and how to go about reimbursement.
